Keten was a male Kobali, a former Human killed in the late 24th century in the line of duty and reborn with the help of Jhet'leya in 2410. (VOY episode: "Deadlock", STO - Delta Quadrant mission: "Dust to Dust")

Biography[]

HarryDies

Ensign Kim's death in 2372.

In the 2372, Ensign Harry Kim died in the damage his ship, the Federation Starfleet starship USS Voyager, suffered in the aftermath of being duplicated in a subspace divergence field. He was replaced with his counterpart from another Voyager, which in turn was destroyed during a Vidiian attack. (VOY episode: "Deadlock")

The Kobali, with the assistance of Jhet'leya, another former Voyager crew member once known as Lyndsay Ballard, found Ensign Kim's body in space. (STO - Delta Quadrant mission: "Dust to Dust")

The Kobali kept Kim's body in a Vaadwaur stasis pod on Kobali Prime for years[1] while they prepared it for the rebirth process. After the Kobali agreed with the Delta Alliance to stop using Vaadwaur bodies, Jhet'leya promised the body inside the pod that she would take good care of him. (STO - Kobali Crisis Act III mission: "Our Chance for Peace")

Keten on Kobali

Keten in the temple on Kobali Prime.

In 2410, Keten awakened, initially appearing more Human-like than other Kobali. Like Jhet'leya before him, the ex-Human remembered most of his life and rejected his transformation into a Kobali. Harry Kim, his duplicate and now captain of the USS Rhode Island, and another Delta Alliance commanding officer, attempted to reason with the aggravated Keten. Confused and transforming further, Keten wanted to return to Voyager, unaware of the passage of time since his death and that blowing the ship's cover during its secret mission in Krenim space would put Admiral Tuvok and his crew at risk.

Jhet'leya on Keten

Jhet'leya arguing for Keten.

Jhet'leya joined Kim and the Alliance commander in the chase and exchange of words in the Kobali temple. Keten accused Kim of lying to him and of betrayal for stealing his life. Keten eluded the trio and used Jhet'leya's command codes to transport himself to the KDC Samsar and seize control of the battleship prototype.

The Rhode Island and another Alliance vessel apprehended the Samsar at a Hirogen relay station, defending it against a Hirogen assault. This prompted Keten to reconsider. Kim, Jhet'leya and the Alliance commander beamed aboard and convinced Keten to stand down, and accept his new life. As part of the transformation, Keten began to forget his old life. Jhet'leya explained that Keten would be best of among his new people, the Kobali, but would have the freedom to choose what to make of his new life, including rejoining Starfleet. (STO - Delta Quadrant mission: "Dust to Dust")
