Kevin McCarthy was a 23rd century Human man, a Starfleet lieutenant in the 2280s decade.

Biography[]

In the year 2285, he was assigned to the USS Surak as navigator and second officer, under command of Captain Spock.

McCarthy took the conn when Spock and First Officer Brinks were off the bridge during the ship's mission to Proto. (TOS comic: "The Trouble with Transporters!")

On stardate 8905.6, McCarthy was on duty when the Surak responded to a distress call from from a class VI Aakenn-class freighter. Spock asked McCarthy to join the landing party, soon discovering that the whole crew was dead except for a lone Andorian survivor. Not long after returning to the Surak, however, the crew began collapsing in severe pain, first Singer, then Chu-sa, McCarthy, Brinks, and Spock. McCarthy died from an unknown pathagen, along with most of the ship's complement. (TOS - The Doomsday Bug! comic: "Death Ship!")

McCarthy was listed as having died in the line of duty and awarded posthumous honors. (ST - Who's Who in Star Trek comic: "Issue 2")
