Memory Beta, non-canon Star Trek Wiki

Khalas was the third planet in the Aberriz star system in the Klingon Empire in the Alpha or Beta Quadrant. It was the only class M planet in its system, and it had four moons.

Khalas was once a minor Orion Colony until it was dominated by the Klingons. In the late 23rd century, it was commanded by Admiral Khour zantai-Laggal, though the Orion Balun family shared power.

It was an important R&R post for the Empire, as well as a border monitoring station. Though the world was treated as a place for unwanted members of the Empire, it was also possibly a front for operatives of the Klingon Diplomatic Corps. Starfleet Intelligence members sometimes called it Checkpoint Charlie, as it was used by both sides as a back-door for semi-legal transfers.

Khalas had a technological/sociopolitical index of 999794-75 and a planetary trade profile of CCCBBDE/A(B).

It had a total surface area of 764,537,960 square kilometers and, with 41% land mass, a total land area of 313,460,560 square kilometers. About 22% of its makeup was normal metals, and it only had trace amounts of radioactive elements, gemstones, industrial crystals and other special minerals. It had a tropical climate, a thick class M atmosphere and a 26 hour-long day. (FASA RPG module: The Orions: Book of Common Knowledge)
