Kharzh'ulla

The surface of Kharzh'ulla (Note "The Ring" overhead.)

Kharzh'ulla was a Tellarite colony world on the fringe of Federation space. It possessed a massive orbital structure called The Ring, believed to have been built centuries past by the Furies, and considered one of the many wonders of the galaxy.

During the Dominion War, Starfleet had a staging area for fleet deployments and a drydock facility at Kharzh'ulla. At capacity these facilities could support tens of thousands of starships.

Near the end of the Dominion War, The Ring was heavily damaged by a Jem'Hadar attack, weakening its structure and nearly resulting in its collapse to the planet's surface. This tragedy was averted with the help of the Starfleet Corps of Engineers crew aboard the USS da Vinci, including one-time Kharzh'ulla resident Mor glasch Tev.

Kharzh'ulla was also the site of Kharzh'ulla University (SCE eBook: Ring Around the Sky)

In late 2379, after the election of Federation President Nanietta Bacco, Bacco's former deputy campaign manager Helga Fontaine moved on to run the campaign of a minister on Kharzh'ulla. (TNG novel: A Time for War, A Time for Peace)

President Bacco scheduled a stop at Kharzh'ulla during her goodwill tour in February of 2380. The planet's starship construction industry had been strongly impacted by the termination in January of the Federation's trade agreement with Aligar for kellinite. (ST novel: Articles of the Federation)

Following the Borg Invasion of 2381, Captain Martina Cukovich used the near-collapse of Kharzh'ulla's space elevator as an example of the Federation's history of delayed post-crisis response, hoping that this would change during this newest crisis. (TNG novel: Losing the Peace)

The TNG novel mentions the elevator near-collapse, but does not name Kharzh'ulla specifically, making reference only to "that Tellarite colony".
