In Klingonese, a kilaan was a measurement of time used by the Klingon civilization. (TLE novel: Excelsior: Forged in Fire)

The term "kilaan", first appeared in fan fiction, in an Orion Press fanzine published in April 1982. The term was used in a story called Klingons! by Randall Landers and Rick Endres, and has appeared in fan fiction many times since. It was defined as being equal to 22.5 standard minutes.
