The Kindir were a sentient species native to the Delta Quadrant planet Arehaz in the 46th Century BCE. They were humanoid, described as having two opposable thumbs on their hands, as well as having skin that varied from golden brown to ebony. There were a dozen major languages spoken on their world. Kindir culture and technology in the 46th Century BCE resembled 20th century human society. Their economy had elements of Capitalism such as private corporations, and they were not capable of warp travel. In 4527 BCE, the Kindir became the first species to be targeted for assimilation by the nascent Borg Collective. (ST - Destiny novel: Lost Souls.)

Presumably the Kindir would be the species that would receive the Borg designation "Species 001," though this is, of course, speculation.
