- For the primary universe counterpart, see Klag, son of M'Raq.
In the mirror universe, Klag, son of M'Raq was a Klingon male who served the Klingon-Cardassian Alliance during the 24th century. He had a younger brother, Dorrek. Their father M'Raq had died by 2372.
In 2372, he held the rank of commander and was the first officer of the IKS Pagh under the command of Captain Kargan. He and his brother had a bet regarding which of them would be the first son of M'Raq to be promoted to captain and be placed in command of a warship.
Shortly after losing his right arm in battle on Marcan V that year, he was placed in command of the Regent-class warship, IKS Gorkon by Regent Worf. Having won the bet with Dorrek, he sent his brother a message telling him that he would have to buy him a bottle of bloodwine when they next met. (KE - Mirror Universe short story: "Family Matters")
In January 2377, the Gorkon was detached to Intendant Kira Nerys' fleet. Along with Gul Akellen Macet, Klag was summoned to meet with the Intendant aboard her flagship, the IKS Negh'Var to discuss strategy for destroying the Terran Rebellion using the Klingon 9th Fleet, beginning with an attack on Sindorin. Klag was surprised that Regent Martok was willing to grant Kira the use of his beloved 9th Fleet for even a short period of time. (DS9 novel: Warpath)
Later that year, he defeated Martok in honorable combat and thereby succeeded him as Regent of the Klingon Empire. After instances of rebellion and infighting through the Klingon fleet, Regent Klag ordered that all slaves within the Klingon Empire were to be executed. As well as a death knoll of millions, this had a significant, detrimental effect on the Klingon economy. For his part, Klag had also been opposed to warriors keeping slaves as he believed that it made them soft.
As soon as he entered office, Klag pursued a strategy of conquest in the hope of ultimately expanding the Klingon Empire to encompass all of the Alpha Quadrant. However, the majority of the Klingon High Council regarded this as a naive and potentially dangerous fantasy. Klag proposed to begin this ambition plan by conquering Cardassia, Qo'noS' partner in the Alliance. He gained approval for this proposal on the condition that he turned his attention to the Romulan fleet led by the Xenexian renegade M'k'n'zy of Calhoun and the new threat of the Taurus Pact once the Cardassian Union was conquered.
In 2378, the Ferengi recognized the new Terran state which was declared after the Memory Omega fleet, under Calhoun's command, liberated Earth from the Alliance. In retaliation, Klag abrograted the Raknal Accords and used a trilithium explosive to destroy Ferenginar's sun, leading to the almost complete extermination of the Ferengi people. This dishonorable act led to the Memory Omega agent General Duras challenging Klag to a duel. Duras succeeded in killing him and took his place as Regent. Once in power, Duras maneuvered the Klingons into accepting a peace treaty with the Terran Rebellion. (ST - Mirror Universe novel: Rise Like Lions)
