Klethorian

The Klethorians were a species native to the Klethor star system in the Alpha or the Beta Quadrant.

They were a relatively primitive culture, so much so that the Federation's Prime Directive would likely have forbidden contact with them, given the chance. However, by the late 23rd century, they had already had extensive trade with the Orion Colony on Daros IV, and they imported advanced technology that permanently altered the native culture. In return, the Orions had a monopoly on trade with the Klethor worlds, which the Klethorians were apparently reluctant to break by risking dealing with unfamiliar independent and Federation merchants. Careful applications of bribery, intrigue, and violence by the Five Families may also have had something to do with it.

Though not explicitly stated, by the context of poor Klethorian farmers trading with Daros IV, it is assumed that the Klethorian homeworld is one of the primitive client worlds of Daros IV, hence the above information.

The Klethorians were producers of Eldor fruit, which the Orion Keros Family sold in the High Market of Daros IV, though the Eldor Fruit Rust ruined Klethorian farmers and negatively affected Keros fortunes.

Skrix Veestar was a Klethorian Eldor fruit farmer until his orchard was destroyed by the Rust. Looking for work, he sought working passage on a ship to Daros IV, where he found employment as a bellhop at Madame Altair's House of Joy until he was sacked for laziness. Immediately after, he offered his services as guide, porter and assistant to passers-by. He was rather hampered by being lazy, untrustworthy, ignorant, and cowardly. He also ate an enormous amount of food, more than he could afford by working, despite his gaunt frame and 60 kilogram weight. He was very tall at 2.35 meters. (FASA RPG module: Orion Ruse)
