L'Rell versus J'mpok.

The Klingon Civil War of 2411, called just Klingon Civil War by contemporaries, was an armed military conflict, a war between two factions led by J'mpok and J'Ula, fought in the early 2410s decade. (STO - Klingon Civil War mission: "The Centre Cannot Hold")

Despite being a civil war, the Klingon Civil War involved outsiders from the Khitomer Alliance and Elachi. It concluded on Qo'noS in 2411 with L'Rell becoming the new Chancellor of the High Council of the Klingon Empire. (STO - Klingon Civil War mission: "A Day Long Remembered")

History[]

Prelude[]

In the 23rd century, Lady J'Ula was the matriarch of the House of Mo'Kai. This Great House participated in the Federation-Klingon War of 2256-2257. During an engagement in the Delta Volanis Cluster in the year 2256, J'Ula and her warriors board the experimental science vessel USS Glenn and stole data about the ship's mycelial network-based spore drive. (STO - Age of Discovery mission: "Secrets")

She converted this technology into a mycelial weapon, equipped on her flagship IKS Lukara. Early in 2257, House Mo'Kai attacked the Starbase 1 facility located 100 AU from Sol. When the Lukara fired the weapon, a temporal rift transported the Mo'Kai fleet and nearby Starfleet into the 25th century. The time displaced Starfleet personnel joined their 2409 counterparts. (STO - Age of Discovery mission: "Downfall")

In 2410, Chancellor J'mpok of the Klingon Empire and Fleet Admiral Jorel Quinn of Federation Starfleet recognised J'Ula and the time-displaced House Mo'Kai forces loyal to her as a threat. As partners within the Khitomer Alliance, they commissioned holographic training scenarios based on the war from 2256-57 to train Alliance personnel in fighting J'Ula and her followers.

This included the opening volley against the Federation by J'Ula's brother T'Kuvma in 2256, the Battle of the Binary Stars,[1] the events at Delta Volanis[2] and the fight around Starbase 1[3]. (STO - Age of Discovery missions: "Battle at the Binary Stars", "Secrets", "Downfall")

War[]

The war began in earnest during a failed parley between J'mpok and J'Ula in the Great Hall of the First City on Qo'noS. J'Ula accused J'mpok of violating her brother T'Kuvma's tenet to "Remain Klingon" by allying with other nations, while J'mpok called J'Ula a barbarian from a bygone era. J'Ula retreated from the melee in the Great Hall, and attacked Alliance forces at Ceron, Seedea and Terrh during day one. (STO - Klingon Civil War mission: "The Centre Cannot Hold")

The Klingon Defense Force, supported by Allies, defended Ceron against House Mo'Kai. (STO - Klingon Civil War mission: "Clash Above Ceron")

Seedea Base was destroyed by Mo'Kai forces in the Seedea star system. (STO - Klingon Civil War mission: "Strike at Seedea")

A mycelial rift at Terrh brought mutated Elachi into Romulan Republic space. The Awakened Elachi joined the battle on the Alliance's side to help close the rift. (STO - Klingon Civil War mission: "Trouble Over Terrh")

At Qu'Vat, Aakar, son of Aakam of House Mo'Kai secretly betrayed J'Ula when he had the mycelial weapon fired at Qu'Vat City, eliminating the civilian target and tarnishing J'Ula's name. (STO - Klingon Civil War mission: "The Centre Cannot Hold")

J'Ula made a deal with Ksenneta, Chairman of the Khitomer Alliance. This led to J'mpok attack the Alliance during a conference on Khitomer II. Changed sides, Aakar gave the mycelial weapon to J'mpok, who fired it at Khitomer City and blamed J'Ula for the crass act. This led to some of his allies to switch side to House Mo'Kai. (STO - Klingon Civil War mission: "The Khitomer Discord")

House Mo'Kai then sought evidence to clear J'Ula's name from this war crime. The proof of J'mpok's involvement in the attack on Khitomer led to the Shattering of the Klingon Empire, where both rebels and loyalists deserted their leaders. J'mpok declared himself the Emperor of the Klingon Empire and returned to Qo'noS. In his first act as emperor, he dissolved the Klingon High Council. The office of the chancellor was now vacant. (STO - Klingon Civil War mission: "Partisans")

To tread the path of honor, J'Ula and her allies journeyed to the Boreth Monastery on Boreth. J'Ula underwent a spiritual trial, and the monk Tenavik presented the cloned body of the former Mother of the Klingon Empire, L'Rell. (STO - Klingon Civil War mission: "Knowledge is Power")

To revive L'Rell, J'Ula's party had to recover her soul from Gre'thor. Entering the Klingon afterlife, the matriarch struck a deal with former chancellor Gowron, son of M'Rel, whose soul was stuck in Ko'th. In a deal with Fek'lhr, Gowron remained in Gre'thor in exchange for L'Rell's return to life. In turn, J'Ula promised to deliver J'mpok and Aakar to Gre'thor, and allow Gowron to ascend to Sto-vo-kor. (STO - Klingon Civil War mission: "Leap of Faith")

Conclusion[]

In the showdown in the orbit of Qo'noS, and within the Great Hall in First City, J'Ula killed Aakar and defeated J'mpok. She declined chancellorship in favor of L'Rell, who accepted her second term as Klingon chancellor, affirming the Khitomer Alliance. (STO - Klingon Civil War mission: "A Day Long Remembered")

Known engagements[]

Chancellors[]

This conflict was notable for involving several Klingons who had held the position of Chancellor of the Klingon Empire at one point. (STO - Klingon Civil War mission: "A Day Long Remembered")

The conflict began between then incumbent Chancellor J'mpok and his challenger Matriarch J'Ula. (STO - Klingon Civil War mission: "The Centre Cannot Hold")

General Martok, son of Urthog, J'mpok's predecessor, switched sides from J'mpok to J'Ula during the Attack on Khitomer. (STO - Klingon Civil War mission: "The Khitomer Discord")

In Gre'thor, J'Ula allied with Gowron, son of M'Rel, Martok's predecessor. He remained with Fek'lhr to allow J'Ula to retrieve L'Rell, a chancellor from the 2250s decade, and return her to the living. (STO - Klingon Civil War mission: "Leap of Faith")

Following the defeat of J'mpok, L'Rell accepted a second term as chancellor of the Klingon Empire. (STO - Klingon Civil War mission: "A Day Long Remembered")
