In the Kelvin timeline, the Klingon bird-of-prey was a 23rd century military starship in use by the Klingon Empire around beginning of the 2260s decade.
History and specifications
At the onset of the Kelvin timeline, the Klingons utilized warships identical to those of their counterparts in the primary universe. That swiftly changed when they captured the crippled Narada and devoted the next twenty-five years to studying its advanced technology. (TOS - Nero comics: "Number One", "Number Three")
From this study, the Klingons managed to produce small fleets of ships cast in the likeness of the Narada, granting them superior warp and weapon capabilities. In spite of Kor's boasts of their invincibility, his fleet and another were utterly obliterated by Romulan warbirds derived from the technology of the USS Vengeance. (TOS - The Khitomer Conflict comics: "Part 2", "Part 4")
Though the Narada-ships were pushed into production. (TOS - The Q Gambit comic: "Part 1")
Most birds-of-prey encountered by Federation vessels were the standard variant, such as the IKS Muqtovor commanded by General Chang. (TOS - The Spectrum War comics: "Issue 1", "Issue 2")
Or the IKS Chonnaq commanded by Sho'Tokh. (TOS - Manifest Destiny comic: "Issue 1")
In one possible variation of the 24th century, the Narada-ships had been mass-produced and were used alongside a class of ship that closely resembled the ones utilized by the primary universe Klingons in the same era. (TOS - The Q Gambit comics: "Part 2", "Part 3")
