Klwama was a 23rd century humanoid man living on an inhabited asteroid within the Organian Treaty Zone.

History[]

Klwama was born to a husband-wife team of Federation explorers who disappeared not long after his birth. His body could withstand temperatures from -190° to 312°, was impervious to phasers, and was unusually strong. His mind had genius potential. He apparently was marooned on the asteroid and cared for by the natives. "Klwama" was their term for wisest and strongest.

In 2266, Klwama spotted Leonardo shooting at heavy mining vehicles. He threw a huge boulder into the shuttle to crash it, then fought savagely with the shuttle's crew. He explained to James T. Kirk that the miners were welcome, and that the illegal kurali given to the natives helped eased their hardships.

While visiting the starship USS Enterprise, Klwama learned about the Prime Directive and that the tri-faxichologenic acid being mined was essential to lifeforms on the asteroid, including the natives. Eventually Klwama saved his people from the miners, and Leonard McCoy provided enough antidote to cure the inhabitants of their addiction. (TOS comic: "And a Child Shall Lead Them")
