Ko'th

Ko'th, the void.

Ko'th was a Klingon belief in the afterlife comparable to limbo. It was a state of non-being in-between Gre'thor and Sto-vo-kor where the damned would remain.

To escape from Ko'th, one must commit an act of vengeance. A rightful act will lead the deceased to Sto-vo-kor while a wrongful act of vengeance will lead the damned to Gre'thor. It was said that even Gre'thor was more preferable to a life in eternity in Ko'th. (DS9 - Millennium novel: Inferno)

History and specifics[]

Due to the acts of his grandfather Aakar, son of Aakam, Klingon Chancellor Gowron, son of M'Rel arrived in Ko'th following his death in combat with Worf, son of Mogh, in the year 2375. The actions of a Klingon could dishonor his family for three generations.

Gowron was forced to wander the stony ground and dense grey mists of Ko'th. He found the place lacking amusements to distract from brooding and despair. Unlike other figures in the Klingon afterlife, Gowrong was cut off from news of the world of the living. Thus, he believed Martok had remained general and that Worf had ascended the chancellery.

Gowron in Koth

Gowron, son of M'Rel.

During the Klingon Civil War that had commenced in 2411, sometime after stardate 84999.22[1], Matriarch J'Ula and her allies, including Martok and Adet'pa, the Witch of Nimbus III, entered a deathlike state in the Boreth Monastery in order to enter Gre'thor and recover the soul of Chancellor L'Rell. However, the party found themselves in Ko'th, and were sound found by Gowron. Following a brief catch-up on events, Gowron agreed to help the adventurers. He found Gre'thor preferable over Ko'th, and traded his soul for L'Rell's to Fek'lhr, lord of Gre'thor. (STO - Klingon Civil War mission: "Leap of Faith")
