The Kobali settled Kobali Prime in the 24th century. Their fleet was dedicated to protecting the Kobali people, who were threatened with extinction due to their unusual mode of reproduction, "rebirth". (STO - Kobali Crisis Act I mission: "The Temple of My People")
When an alliance of Alpha Quadrant powers emerged into the Delta Quadrant through the Jenolan Dyson Sphere and set up a permanent presence[1] in the year 2410[2], the Kobali received aid from those allies when their common foe - the Vaadwaur - started besieging Kobali Prime. Delta Quadrant Command decided to form an alliance with species of the Delta Quadrant. Representatives of allied members met for a summit in the asteroid field near Al'yans II in the Al'yans star system. A Kobali battleship, at the time the most powerful Kobali ship type, represented Kobali Prime. (STO - Delta Quadrant mission: "Alliances")
During the latter stages of the war with the Vaadwaur Supremacy, the Kobali and their Delta Alliance partners had developed the more powerful Samsar-class cruiser, a ship that outcompeted the existing Kobali battleship, Kobali cruiser, and Kobali frigate.
