Kolak was a Klingon who served the Empire's Defense Force as a starship captain, in command of a K't'inga-class battlecruiser in the 2270s.

Biography[]

In 2274, Kolak's ship patrolled the Federation-Klingon Neutral Zone not far from Sarsithia. Looking to incite a war, Sarsith General Onath sent a Sarsith fighter on a suicide mission to attack the cruiser. When Kolak destroyed it, Sarlith led a Sarsith warship fleet against Kolak. The USS Enterprise under Captain James T. Kirk attempted to intervene and called for a truce, but Kolak interpreted Kirk's maneuvers as a trick. Kolak destroyed Onoth's flagship, but the battlecruiser's shields were lost and Kolak was forced to retreat and request reinforcements. (TOS comic: "Quarantine")

Kolak hid his vessel in debris from the fourth planet of the Vulpecula 12 system and waited for the proper moment to attack the Enterprise. Kolak then attacked and disabled the Enterprise and its sensors by igniting Vulpecula 12 IV's magnesium-laden debris.

However, Kolak's ship, himself and his crew of 385 soon came under attack by the Omnimind's forces on Iskonia's asteroid defenses. His ship was destroyed and his crew landed on Iskonia. He then had the defenses target the Enterprise. After the Enterprise destroyed the defenses, Kolak contacted Kirk and offered to talk with him. However, the Omnimind's robots betrayed him and he was placed in a chamber to be restructured into a cyborg to serve the Omnimind.

The cyborg Kolak was ordered to terminate Kirk and his landing party, but Kolak was able to break through his reprogramming. He then destroyed the restructuring facility, but died in a console explosion. (TOS comic: "Restructuring Is Futile")
