Kopek, son of Nargor was a Klingon male from a scion house who sat as a high ranking member of the Klingon High Council, rising to the position in the late 2370s. He was a fervent opponent of Chancellor Martok, due to Martok's commoner origins. Kopek's chambers in the Great Hall were ornately, with polished black marble floors, pillars of gleaming obsidian, targhDIr furniture, scented varHuS candles in carved crystal sconces, delicate Vulcan paper ceiling tiles, a Betazoid water sculpture, and double doors carved from a Terran redwood. Kopek's aide was L'Vek.

Kopek's political leanings were considered neo-Cardassian, having gone so far as to sell the Cardassians weaponry during their war against the Federation. Additionally, he smuggled Imperial supplies to the Orion Syndicate during the Dominion War.

At some point, Kopek fathered a first-born son with a mistress; in order to hide the shame of his bastard child, he dashed his skull on Mount Vor. (TNG novel: A Time to Kill)

Lorgh suspected Kopek of giving Gorrik information about the survivors camp on Carraya IV in 2376. (KE novel: A Burning House)

In 2379, Worf forced Kopek to give him the command codes for the Klingon Defense Force; Kopek's code was Kopek wej Hut baH Soch vagh loS taj. In exchange, Worf gave him a data rod containing the complete file on Kopek collected by Lorgh of Imperial Intelligence. (TNG novels: A Time to Kill, A Time to Heal)

Later that year, Kopek took part in the plot by the Klahb to seize the Federation Embassy on Qo'noS, provided the organization weapons and security overrides. (TNG novel: A Time for War, A Time for Peace)

Despite Kopek's political leanings, when the High Council was confronted with sensor readings of the USS Ranger sacrificing itself for the planet Khitomer against the invading Borg Collective in 2381, he pledged support in the conflict against the Borg. (ST - Destiny novel: Gods of Night)

As the Borg Invasion of 2381 continued to plague the Alpha and Beta Quadrants, Martok led his flagship in battle, leaving Kopek behind on Qo'noS to monitor the Great Hall. After failing to stop the invading fleet of Borg cubes, Martok contacted Kopek back on Qo'noS and warned him of the impending attack. Kopek set aside his differences with Martok and pledged to summon a fleet to protect the homeworld, promising that his throne would await him upon his return. True to his word, Kopek defended the planet, losing his life in battle along with fellow councillors Qolka and Tovoj. (ST - Destiny novel: Lost Souls)
