Korak was a class M planet located in the galaxy's Alpha or Beta Quadrant.
Background[]
The planet's sky appeared yellow from the surface. It evolved a variety of species of gigantic dinosaurs, some of which were hundreds of feet long.
History[]
In 2265, Zodians landed an expeditionary force on Korak. Within a week, however, their base camp was overrun by dinosaurs, and only six members of their team remained. Fuel stores had been destroyed, stranding the Zodians on the planet without enough fuel to leave orbit in a Zodian starship.
Starfleet Intelligence reports of activity on Korak prompted the USS Enterprise to investigate. As soon as the starship arrived, Zodians attacked, then quickly surrendered, as being captured seemed the only way they could escape from the planet.
James T. Kirk and a landing party explored Korak aboard the shuttlecraft Galileo (NCC-1701/B), but his ship was knocked out of the sky by a stegosaurus-like animal and was caught in the treetops, its crew unconscious. The Zodians killed the dinosaur using another shuttle, NCC-1701/C, at the cost of their own lives. Kirk's crew witnessed the sacrifice and made it back to the Enterprise. (TOS comic: "The Zodian Sacrifice")
