The Korath class was a Klingon starship class, a temporal science vessel type in service in the 29th century. Due to the machinations of the Tholian Assembly, the Klingon Defense Force gained access to this class in the early 25th century. (STO - Under Siege mission: "First City", STO website: Under Siege: New Temporal Lock Box and Lobi Ships)
Specifications[]
The Klingon Empire had become a member of the Federation at some point before the year 2769 but continued to field its own defense fleet. (STO - Future Proof mission: "Time and Tide")
In the 29th century, the Klingons launched their own counterpart of Starfleet's Wells-class timeship, the Korath class. Along with the Romulan R'Mor-class warbird, all three temporal science vessels shared the same capabilities, and mirrored their equipment. (STO - Legacy of Romulus mission: "First City")
Ships of this class, and their complements of Rozhenko-class timeship-shuttles, were stolen from their native timeframe by the Tholian Assembly in 2409. When the Lobi Crystal Consortium and Allied strike teams recovered these vessels, the Tholians had relieved them of their uptime tech.
The KDF worked with Temporal Intelligence to reinstate these ships, with current technology. The shield array, deflector array, impulse engines and the matter anti-matter warp core were rated Mk. X. An additional defense system was the Tipler cylinder. When activated, this device used the rotation of its dense beryllium cylinder core to rewind time aboard the ship by 13 seconds.
The ship's weapons were based on antiproton and chroniton technologies. A pair of antiproton beam arrays and a chroniton torpedo torpedo launcher were mounted at the bow and rear of the ship, for a total of six weapon ports. (STO - Under Siege mission: "First City", STO website: Under Siege: New Temporal Lock Box and Lobi Ships)
A vessel of this class was rated tier 5, and thus required that the commanding officer held the rank of brigadier general or higher. (STO - Under Siege mission: "First City")
The IKS Korath became the default representative of its class in shipyard screens, and was deployed by generals who owned a Korath-class temporal science vessel. (STO - Awakening mission: "First City", duty officer system)
The mirror universe counterpart of the Korath was the Krenn-class temporal destroyer. While the default hull color of the Korath was red, the Krenn appeared yellow. (STO - Under Siege mission: "First City", STO website: Under Siege: New Temporal Lock Box and Lobi Ships)
Bridge[]
The layout of the Korath-class bridge mirrored the Wells-class design but was dominated by a red color scheme instead of blue. The bridge was asymmetrical. A transporter pad was connected to the regular entranced by a wall with computer stations. The captain's chair and computer station sat at the intersection between ship's corridor, side wall, and stairs. A window besides the captain's chair and table showed a piece of the hull. While rails separated the higher from the lower level of the bridge, a set of stairs connected the floors. A conn console was located on the lower floor, facing the large viewscreen.
By default, the bridge was operated by six officers - the commanding officer, two science officers ranked commander and lieutenant respectively, an ensign of engineering, and a lieutenant commander with another lieutenant, who could both belong to any department. (STO - Under Siege mission: "First City")
Livery[]
In the 25th century, the hull design of the Korath-class temporal science vessel allowed its commanding officer to choose from different livery materials. These could be modified at shipyards. The material options included numbered Types, Upgrade and Veteran, and the materials of other 29th century ships. (STO - Under Siege mission: "First City")
Korath hull materials:
- Type 0
- Type 1
- Type 2
- Type 3
- Type 4
- Upgrade
- Veteran
- derived from 29th century ship technology:
- Chargh'poH
- Korath
- Krenn
- Qul'poH
Furthermore, the installation of deflector shields from specific factions modified the hull appearance, including shields from the Reman Resistance, the Breen Confederacy and the Dominion. (STO missions: "Coliseum", "Cold Storage", "Boldly They Rode")
Service history[]
The Korath-class prototype IKS Korath entered service in the 29th century. (STO website: Under Siege: New Temporal Lock Box and Lobi Ships)
Korath, son of Monak was a 24th century Klingon and inventor of a time machine. (DTI novel: Watching the Clock)
Downtime, in the year 2409, the Tholian Assembly utilized multi-dimensional phasing technology to penetrate the borders of spatial dimensions and the space-time continuum itself, allowing for the retrieval of future starships. They stripped the captured vessels of their advanced technologies. Strike teams sent to Tholian asteroid bases in the Azure Nebula recovered some of these, enabling the Lobi Crystal Consortium to sell them to the Klingon Empire. (STO website: Under Siege: The Temporal Lock Box)
The IKS Korath and its sister ships entered service in the Klingon Defense Force. (STO - Under Siege mission: "First City", STO website: Under Siege: New Temporal Lock Box and Lobi Ships)
The newer Qul'poH-class temporal science vessel, also launched in the 29th century, was based on the Korath class. (STO - Agents of Yesterday mission: "First City")
