Kos was a planet located near Federation space in the the galaxy's Alpha or Beta Quadrant. It was the homeworld of the advanced, isolationist Kosian civilization.
History and specifics[]
Kos appeared nondescript from orbit. It was located in a sector visited by many interstellar species, including Andorians, Breen, Gorn, and Klingons. It was along a Klingon route to the Andalorean Spice Mines.
It did not recognize Federation law, and in the 2250s or 2260s broke diplomatic relations with the Federation. The planet had at least one impressively large city employing some technology beyond Starfleet science. Its prisons were packed with non-Kosians.
In 2268, as the starship USS Enterprise traveled through its sector, Kosians abducted James T. Kirk. He was incarcerated within a large prison on Kos and put on trial. The Enterprise orbited Kos while negotiating for his release. (TOS - Star Trek: The Manga - Kakan ni Shinkou comic: "The Trial")
