For other uses, see Koth.

Koth was a male Klingon officer in the 23rd century. He served in the Imperial Klingon Defense Force as first officer of the IKS Kandar under Captain Kodrash.

History[]

In 2273, Koth took a five-man landing party down to Forma VI to locate replacement dilithium for their depleted heavy cruiser. They threatened a Human mining colony on the surface and searched a depleted dilithium mine, but not even fragments were found.

When the USS Enterprise approached, Captain Kodrash ordered Koth to monitor the Starfleet group in case it lead them to the dilithium. Krax wanted to shoot them, but Koth was more patient. After Arcturian mining engineer Taskul was also unable to locate dilithium in the mine, Koth used a kidnapped a baby from the colony to lure the Starfleet people into the mine and take them hostage.

Koth threatened James T. Kirk with an uprated agonizer and demanded he hand over dilithium reserves from the Enterprise. When Leonard McCoy called over the communicator that he and Hikaru Sulu had found dilithium a few kilometers away, Koth realized that the Enterprise was as crippled as the Kandar and that his hostages had no value. He was about to kill them all, but Spock created a distraction and they were able to escape.

Koth and his team headed towards Sulu's location, but they were ambushed and overcome by Pavel Chekov and a team of security officers. Koth spoke briefly with Kirk, calling the Organian Peace Treaty a joke. Koth and his men were to be returned to the Kandar aboard a travel pod along with spare dilithium.

Kodrash distrusted Kirk and thought the travel pod was a bomb, so he blew it up. Koth was therefore killed by friendly fire along with Krax and three others. (TOS comic: "Dilithium Dilemma")

Several Klingons shared the name Koth, including an emperor, the warden of the Rura Penthe prison, a warrior in the Kelvin timeline, a mechanic, a 24th century lieutenant, and even a fictional hologram captain.
