Kukalaka

Kukalaka in Bashir's quarters

Kukalaka was a teddy bear which Julian Bashir had as a child, and kept well into adulthood.

When Bashir was five years old, Kukalaka became his first "patient" when he performed surgery to stitch close a hole in the bear's leg. From then on Bashir cared for and repaired Kukalaka to the best of his abilities. (DS9 episode: "The Quickening")

In 2372 Bashir allowed Leeta, who he was dating at the time, to borrow Kukalaka. When Bashir and Leeta split up, Bashir recruited Jake Sisko and Nog to get Kukalaka back, in exchange for five liters of anaerobic metabolites suspended in a hydrosaline solution. (DS9 episode: "In the Cards")

In April 2376, following a near fatal attack on Bashir by the Jem'Hadar soldier Kitana'klan, Kukalaka was the last thing he thought about before he lost consciousness. (DS9 novel: Avatar, Book Two)

Later in 2376, Bashir brought Kukalaka with him during the Corps of Discovery mission in the Gamma Quadrant. (DS9 - Mission Gamma novels: This Gray Spirit, Cathedral)

During the Salavat mission in 2382, Sarina Douglas teased Bashir that he was missing Kukalaka. (ST - Typhon Pact novel: Zero Sum Game)

In 2388, Katherine Pulaski brought Kukalaka to Bashir on Cardassia. (DS9 novel: Enigma Tales)
