LIDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) was a technology used to measure distances and speed by shooting pulses of light at objects.

History and specifics[]

In the year 2020, the USS Lewis & Clark was equipped with LIDAR and used it to track the alien probe designated C/2018-G2. (TOS novel: The Rings of Time)

In 2032, the Ares IV was also equipped with LIDAR. (VOY episode: "One Small Step")
