Laas (played by J. G. Hertzler) was a Founder and one of "the Hundred" Changelings sent out by the Great Link to find the Progenitor.
Laas ended up on the planet Varala and took humanoid form in the 22nd century. The Varalans named him Laas which meant changeable in their language. Soon after he assumed his Varalan form, he began a relationship with a Varalan female. It ended when the woman realized she and Laas could not have children. Laas also took the form of a native animal and followed them in their migration to Varala's southern continent.
He and Odo met in 2375 after Laas, in the form of a spacefaring lifeform, discovered Odo aboard a runabout. Laas tried to convince Odo to join him on a journey to find the other members of the Hundred. Laas later killed a Klingon and General Martok demanded he be extradited to the Klingon Empire. Kira Nerys helped him to escape, as she believed Odo would be happier with one of his own people. Odo met with Laas and wished good luck before returning to Deep Space 9 to Kira. (DS9 episode: "Chimera")
Laas was infected with the morphogenic virus when he linked with Odo. When he returned to the Great Link after the Dominion War, he was cured by the Founders. (DS9 novel: The Dominion: Olympus Descending)
After his return home, Laas was often the Founder who relayed news of the Link's decisions to Odo when he took humanoid form. Soon after the attack on DS9 in 2376, Laas relayed to Odo the news that the Vorta were taking soldiers to abolish unrest in a part of the Dominion. (DS9 novel: Avatar)
Laas became one of the last Founders left in control of the Dominion, alongside Odo, after the apparent dissolution of the Link. Laas had recently returned with two members of the Hundred, as well as one who was dead. (DS9 novel: The Dominion: Olympus Descending)
