Laira Rillak was a 32nd century multi-species woman of Human, Bajoran, and Cardassian descent who served as President of the United Federation of Planets in the 3190s decade. Her term commenced with the resolution of the Burn mystery and the Federation benefitting from a supply of dilithium. (DSC episode: "Kobayashi Maru")
Biography[]
In the year 3190, five months after the USS Discovery secured Theta Zeta's dilithium in the Verubin Nebula, Rillak became the newly-elected Federation president. Former Federation members and antagonizing worlds now enjoyed friendly terms. After 125 years of absence, Starfleet Academy reopened. Rillak held the commencement address for the Class of 3189 and revealed the Archer Spacedock, a brand-new Federation shipyard constructed to refit Starfleet and build the next generation of starships.
During an emergency aboard Deep Space Repair Beta Six, President Rillak accompanied the Discovery. Rillak and Captain Michael Burnham clashed during the rescue mission. Soon after, the Discovery crew learned of a gravitational anomaly threatening the galaxy. (DSC episode: "Kobayashi Maru")
President Rillak, alongside Ni'Var president T'Rina and General Ndoye of United Earth and Titan, was among the galactic delegates who boarded the Discovery for a mission to establish diplomatic contact with Species 10-C outside the Galactic Barrier. (DSC episode: "Rosetta")
