Larry Niven is a Hugo and Nebula award winning author of 'hard' (technically realistic) science fiction, best known for his 'Known Space' universe, particularly the Ringworld novels. He is also the original screenwriter of the Star Trek: The Animated Series episode "The Slaver Weapon," adapted from his 1967 short story, "The Soft Weapon," which showcased his feline warrior race, the Kzinti. The Kzinti returned in a Star Trek newspaper comic strip story he co-authored, The Wristwatch Plantation.
