The legendary light intel warbird was a high-profile warbird starship type developed by the Romulan Republic Navy in the early 2410s decade. This type of starship was inspired by the deeds of the Vas Hatham-class bird of prey other related ships during the formation of the Romulan Republic in the 25th century. History and specifications[]
Following a series of wars and crises that saw action for both brand-new starship classes, and refitted "classics" benefitting from a fleet modernization program, Federation Starfleet provided upgrades to ten existing ship types to bring them up to level with the latest designs. (STO website: Legacy: 10th Anniversary Legendary Starship Bundles)
Starfleet's initiative proved prophetic. During a Borg crisis at Excalbia in 2411, Captain Va'Kel Shon of the USS Enterprise-F led a fleet of Enterprises and other "hero ships" from previous centuries into the Battle of Excalbia to assist a Khitomer Alliance vessel in defending the planet from a Borg Queen Seven of Nine and her fleet. (STO missions: "Legacy", "Measure of Morality (Part 2)")
Soion after, the Romulan Republic followed suit by upgrading the powerful, timeless Vas Hatham-class light warbird, and its sister classes. (STO website: Legacy: Legendary Light Intel Warbird)
Technical specifications[]
As the name suggested, this warbird class sprung from the combination of the light warbird and intel warbird types, creating a ship featuring powerful plasma torpedo-based projectile weapons, an improved cloaking system, and "tricks" useful for any new captain of the RRF.
Visually, legendary light/intel warbirds were indistinguishable from their base classes. In the 25th century, the venerable Vas Hatham class was referred to as T'liss- or T'Liss class.
By default, ships of this class were rated tier 6. When the commanding officer of such a ship held the rank of lieutenant or Khitomer Alliance equivalent, the vessel would start out as tier 1 and upgrade as the CO gained experience and rank.
Within the Khitomer Alliance, RRF officers, Starfleet officers, and officers from Federation-aligned powers, like the Jem'Hadar Vanguard Fleet, were eligible to command such a ship.
In the initial launch of the legendary warbird, all ship classes shared the same default capabilities and equipment. (STO website: Legacy: Legendary Light Intel Warbird)
Bridge[]
The bridge and ship interior reflected the Romulan Republic Navy standard, and thus appeared the same on any singularity-powered. The interior design did not affect the number of bridge officer stations. On the bridge, the commanding officer in the center seat was joined by a combined tactical officer/intelligence operative with the rank of commander, a lieutenant commander from the science division and another one cross-trained between the command and a second division. Besides an engineer with the rank of lieutenant, an ensign from any division operated key systems. (STO - Legacy mission: "Legendary Light Intel Warbird")
Armaments[]
For technical considerations in the Khitomer Alliance, a legendary light intel warbird had five fore and two aft weapon slots. Weapons could be swapped out. Default weaponry consisted of plasma beam arrays and plasma cannons. A ship of this type could equip dual cannons and was fitted with a plasma torpedo launcher by default. In addition, a weapon placed fitted to the experimental weapon mount had a 360-degree firing arc. The legendary light intel warbird also included the universal consoles associated with predecessor light intel warbird classes: ominous device, plasma destabilizer, plasma warhead module, and singularity stabilizer. Systems[]
From a mechanical point of view, ships of legendary pilot warship classes sported a 15 points stronger weapon power and 5 points stronger engine power output compared to a starship design default.
That matched the output of Starfleet's legendary pilot warship classes. (STO website: Legacys: 10th Anniversary Legendary Starship Bundles, Legendary Pilot Warship)
Its basic turn rate stood at 18, and impulse power received a bonus of 0.21, contrasted with an inertia of 65. The baseline modifiers inherent in the class improved shield strength by 0.9, and hull integrity by 1.2.
The cloaking device built into any singularity-powered RRF warbird was replaced with an enhanced battle cloak, allowing a legendary warbird to cloak during combat maneuvers.
As an intel warbird, ship sensors were primed to gather intelligence. This enabled an intel warbird to expose vulnerabilities in enemy systems, with a focus on defenses, weapons, and critical systems. Exposing a system made increased the chance that it would be disabled when the enemy took fire.
An experienced commanding officer gradually coaxed improved handling out of their ship. This effect was called "starship mastery". A trait particular to these ships was known as "assault formation Theta" and meant that the starship would gain a boost to turn rate and weapon amplification upon decloaking or using attack pattern Omega.
When deployed for an assignment by an admiral, a ship of this type was rated based on the strengths of its departments. These were classed as 37 points for engineering, 19 for science and 61 tactical. This affected the outcome of missions were particular departments needed to be involved. An admiral could deploy this ship with up to two other vessels of an type and rating. The tactical rating was boosted by 10 points when paired with an engineering-focused ship. (STO website: Legacy: Explore the Flotilla, admiralty system)
Livery[]
In the 25th century, the design of the legendary light intel warbird allowed its commanding officer to choose from different designs of livery, which could be modified further at shipyards. Except for components of the two T'liss variants, hull components were interchangeable between legendary light intel warbird classes and did not affect the ship's capabilities. (STO - From the Ashes mission: "Explore the Flotilla")
Furthermore, the installation of deflector shields from specific factions modified the hull appearance, including shields from the Reman Resistance, the Breen Confederacy and the Dominion. (STO missions: "Coliseum", "Cold Storage", "Boldly They Rode")
