The Lenthal-class was a design of Federation class IX destroyer starship in Starfleet service in the 23rd century, with a mark II version that became active on reference stardate 2/1202, and a mark V upgrade to the design which entered service on stardate 2/1708.
History and specifications[]
The vessel's name derives from the Andorian languages, owing to its origins as an Andorian design.
The vessels crewed 160 crewmembers in the mk II design, uprated to 165 in the mk V variant, with accomodations to carry 10 passengers. Additionally, the Lenthal could carry 5,000 metric tons of cargo, rated at 100 SCU (standard cargo units). Unloaded, the mark II vessels weighed 133,700 metric tons, while the mark V upgrades had an increased mass of 135,300 metric tons. The Lenthal measured 260 meters in length, 110 meters in width and 40 meters in height.
The class's computer was of the M-2 type, and the vessel was loaded with four standard 6 person personnel transporters, two emergency deployment transporters, and 1 cargo transport stage. There were 2 shuttlecraft, standard Federation shuttlecraft standard to the shuttlebays of these vessels.
The Lenthal warp engines were FWD-1 type, rated to cruise at warp factor 7 and max-out at warp factor 9 (OCU). Impulse engines were varied between the FIF-1 and FIF-2 types, in mark II and mark V vessels, respectively. The Lenthal had 6 phasers, with triple-mounted phaser emitters in each of its two phaser banks, arranged port and starboard, with each phaser capable of firing fore and aft, as well as to the side. In mark II vessels the phasers were of the FH-12 design, and were uprated to FH-13 in the mark Vs. The vessel had no launcher weapons but was defended by FSH model deflector shields.
By the later 23rd century, around stardate the Lenthal was in production in shipyards at Salazaar, with 311 vessels having been built by the mid-2280s, with 201 of the mark II vessels and 110 of the mark V modifications to the design. Over the years by that point, 10 mark II vessels were allocated to reserve fleets, 2 mark II vessels were assigned as training vessels, 22 mark II vessels and 10 mark V vessels destroyed (and 2 mk IIs missing), 2 mark II vessels and 2 mark V vessels scrapped, and 2 mark II vessels sold to private interests. Background[]
Presumably, there would have been a USS Lenthal that was the prototype of this series, but to date, no mention has been made of such a vessel.
