Library interface 397 was a highly advanced, self-aware holographic character. It served as an avatar for the main computer of a certain Colonizer ship.

History[]

In 2263, during an encounter with Library interface 397's Colonizer ship, the Federation starship USS Enterprise beamed a landing party over to investigate. When the alien ship's systems began to power up, potentially for an interdimensional jump, Montgomery Scott and Lee Kelso reached out to the equipment in a manner misinterpreted as threatening, and 397 absorbed the two officers. 397 then appeared and introduced itself to Christopher Pike, Number One, and Spock, describing aspects of the ship's mission. It apologized for the automated functions that took Scott and Kelso, and rematerialized them.

After a few days discussing the technical aspects of interdimensional travel, Library interface 397 sent its Colonizer ship off to another universe. (TOS - New Visions comic: "A Scent of Ghosts")

Montgomery Scott told Leonard McCoy in 2270 that this information "came in handy a few years later", perhaps referring to their experience in the Mirror Universe in 2267.
