Memory Beta, non-canon Star Trek Wiki

The Library of Alexandria was a large library which was constructed in the city of Alexandria on Earth in the 3rd century BC. As time passed, the library became lost and the site was eventually swallowed up by the advancing Mediterranean Sea.

When the Mediterranean Alliance built a massive hydroelectric dam across the Straits of GibraltarWP in the mid-21st century, the sea level dropped by about 60 meters and many ancient treasures such as the Library and pre-Minoan ruins were revealed. (TOS novelization: The Motion Picture)

By the 2360s, it was possible for a device smaller than a human thumbnail to hold a quantity of information several times greater than that contained in the Library. (TNG novel: The Captains' Honor)
