In starship classification, the light warbird was a type of warbird equivalent to light cruiser and frigate classes. In the early 25th century, this designation usually included referred to nimble starships with a superficially avian appearance. Light warbirds differed from light cruisers by having an artificial quantum singularity as engine core. Originally it included tier 1-rated vessels. (STO - Tutorial missions: "Flight from Virinat", "Explore the Flotilla") Following the opening of a new front in the Temporal Cold War, tier 5 and 6 versions of light warbird classes were fielded by the Romulan Republican Force. In the 2400s decade, the Romulan Republican Force and its allies applied this classification retroactively to older ship classes. The Vas Hatham-class, renamed T'liss-class, stemmed from the 23rd century, and the T'varo-class from the 22nd. Like all RRF classes, ships could be fitted with different hull types, including Romulan and Reman options. (STO - Tutorial missions: "Flight from Virinat", "Explore the Flotilla")
Following the end of the Iconian War, the new Malem-class was based on the T'varo but rated tier 6. (STO - New Dawn mission: "Explore the Flotilla")
