The lion (Panthera leo) was a Terran animal of the Felidae (cat) family. Though carnivorous hunters, lions were depicted in several Human cultures as strong and noble beasts, and dubbed as the "king of the jungle."
The constellation Leo, and the numerous astronomical objects bearing the name "Leo," are named for the lion.
Just after her 16th birthday in 2255, Nyota Uhura "killed" an automated lion with a spear in a traditional hunt in East Africa. (TAS novelization: Log 9)
