Lloyd Zeta was a star, a hypergiant located in the space of the galaxy's Alpha or Beta Quadrants.

History and specifics[]

It was the largest stellar object that Starfleet had ever detected. Its orbit was the location of a planetary system which included Lloyd Zeta IX.

In the year 2267, Starfleet and the Vulcan Science Academy discovered that in two years Lloyd Zeta would go supernova, unleashing a shockwave of gamma radiation that would effectively sterilize any world within ten thousand light-years. To prevent this, the Starfleet Engineering Corps constructed the Einstein-Rosen Ouroboros, which would consume the excess energy and form an Einstein-Rosen bridge, while preventing the giant's collapse into a singularity.

In 2269, the Ouroboros was completed and the USS Enterprise assigned to oversee its operation. (TOS - Year Five comic: "Issue 1")
