The Loch Ness Monster (or Nessie) was a plesiosaurWP (really a family of plesiosaurs) living in Loch Ness in Scotland, Europe on Earth. (TOS novel: Deep Domain)
The Monster's deep-water breeding grounds were discovered late in the 21st century. (TOS novel: No Time Like the Past)
In the early 2270s, Montgomery Scott's one-time lover Andrea Manning created a psychological manifestation of the creature to attack Spock. Escalating the psychokinesis attack, she created a larger version of Nessie in space to assault the Enterprise. (TOS comic: "... Like a Woman Scorned!")
