Lopez was a 23rd century Human man. He served in Starfleet as a security officer aboard the Federation starship USS Enterprise in the 2260s under the command of Captain James T. Kirk.
History[]
In 2269, Lopez and Sheckley joined Kirk, Spock and Leonard McCoy on the surface of an unnamed planet to search for a landing party that disappeared within an alien structure. When a doorway couldn't be found, Kirk asked Lopez and Sheckley to disintegrate a wall with phaser fire, but it was made of material that resisted phasers and blocked communications. Spock found a hidden entrance and assigned Lopez and Sheckley to maintain watch outside while Kirk, Spock and McCoy searched the interior. (TOS - The New Voyages 2 short story: "In the Maze")
Lopez was killed aboard the Enterprise later that year when a massive surge blew apart a power regulator matix in a Jefferies tube above the brig where he was guarding Tormid. A heavy panel struck him, breaking his neck, and he died instantly. (TOS novel: The Latter Fire)
