The Loque'eque were a species that originated in the Delphic Expanse.
Biology[]
A humanoid reptilian species, distinguished by their pale skin, blue eyes and vocal sacs on the sides of their jaws.
History[]
Centuries ago, the Loque'eque population were decimated by an unknown calamity and lost the ability to reproduce leading to their species to slowly die out. To save their race from extinction, the Loque'eque engineered a mutagenic virus that converted the DNA of other species into their own and have an instinctive need to return to their homeworld.
During the 2090s, the a species native to the Delphic Expanse suffered from an epidemic caused by the mutagenic virus and tens of millions were infected. Unable to find a cure to the virus, the species neutralized the infected and placed a quarantine on the Loque'eque homeworld and incinerating any sentient who landed on the planet and were exposed to the virus.
In 2153 the USS Enterprise, following the trail of the last known whereabouts of the Xindi-Arboreals from a stolen database came across the Loque'eque homeworld. Unaware of the danger Captain Jonathan Archer, Subcommander T'Pol, Lieutenant Malcolm Reed and Hoshi Sato landed on the planet to search for clues on the Xindi. They found Xindi landing craft and some incinerated bodies. The four were soon exposed to the virus and transformed into Loque'eque. T'Pol due to her Vulcan biology was immune but found herself now in the midst of her own allies no longer recognizing her.
T'Pol worked to slowly understand what had happened to her companions and later helped to protect them from the containment teams guarding the planet. Malcom was retrieved by Enterprise, though Archer and Hoshi escaped capture with T'Pol following to ensure their safety. Archer and his companions were drawn to dreams of the Loque'eque's ancestral city, Urquat. However when they found the hidden city underground, the two changed humans were horrified to find the city in ruins and corpses of the dead.
With some effort, T'Pol managed to convince Archer and Hoshi to return to Enterprise, where Phlox managed to synthesize a cure using T'Pol's own cells. The cure was later given to Tret so that his people could cure those infected and hopefully prevent future epidemic.
Despite the experience, Archer prevented Phlox from destroying a sample of the virus as it would eliminate the last vestiges of the Loque'eque. Instead he ordered the doctor to put the vial in stasis to preserve the Loque'eque's memory. (ENT episode: "Extinction")
In 2158, during the Earth-Romulan War, the Kilhra'en was attacked by an Haakonan transport ship. Charles Tucker III onboard was shocked to find that the ship was being crewed by Loque'eque and suspected that perhaps the sample of the mutagenic virus that was preserved may have been compromised by the Romulans who weaponized the virus. (ENT - The Romulan War novel: To Brave the Storm)
Culture[]
