Lozite-M bio-metallite

A field of lozite-M plants.

Lozite-M is a unique species of plant life native to the Federation planet Zeta-Atez.

History and specifics[]

It was a bio-metallite that grew only on Zeta-Atez. It resembled stalks of corn that grew eight or nine feet tall. Its leaves were anti-magnetic, making them invaluable in 2270s Federation weaponry.

Stalks could be held safely, but their broad, dark green leaves became razor sharp as they matured. Even careful handling occasionally led to accidents. Prime Minister Chak lost his right hand as a boy while harvesting lozite-M.

A field of lozite-M was planted around the Cloister of Dykranus when the imperator was born, containing a maze of 128 turns to limit access.

In 2274, intent on claiming the planet for its resources, a fleet of Klingon starships idled along the Federation-Klingon Neutral Zone near Zeta-Atez after the Imperator of Zeta-Atez announced plans to secede.

The imperator Dykranus had two heads. During a consultation with a landing party from the starship USS Enterprise, he tripped while holding a blade of lozite-M, accidentally severing one of his heads. Subsequent events led to the world remaining a Federation ally and lozite-M remaining a resource for the Federation. (TOS comic: "Heads of State")
