M'Umbha Makia Uhura was a female Human in the early 23rd century, the mother of Nyota Uhura and the wife of Alhamisi Uhura. (ST website: StarTrek.com, TOS reference: Star Trek II Biographies)

Biography[]

M'Umbha took courses at Cairo University, but dropped out in order to serve as an engineer aboard a freighter headed for Jupiter's moons. (TOS reference: Star Trek II Biographies)

She and her husband were teachers at the University of Nairobi. They and their son were killed in a shuttle accident, survived by their young daughter Nyota. (SNW episode: "Children of the Comet")

Kelvin timeline[]

During a visit with Raheem, Uhura, along with her husband were knocked when a explosion hit their shuttle. M'Umbha and her husband were then saved by their daughter, Nyota. (TOS - Star Trek comic: "Issue 18")

In 2263, M'Umbha appeared to her daughter in a vision created by the extinct, previous inhabitants of New Vulcan. (TOS - Boldly Go comic: "Issue 9")

Nyota sent her mother a letter announcing her acceptance to Starfleet Academy, and later her mother congratulated her for finishing her first year there. (TOS reference: Star Trek II Biographies)

In the Crucible continuity, Uhura died sometime in 2267, and her daughter wore a black armband as a symbol of her mourning. (TOS - Crucible novel: The Fire and the Rose)

In the novelization of The Slaver Weapon, 2270, she and her husband Alhamisi Uhura resided at rural route 5, Kitui Province, in Kenya. They managed a farm which raised pigs and corn. (TOS - Log Ten novelization: The Slaver Weapon)

In Shadows of the Indignant, in the year 2271, she agreed to help Admiral James T. Kirk conduct a covert fact-gathering mission on Indalo Station, by becoming the nominal head of a false freighting corporation called Uhura Enterprises. (TOS - Mere Anarchy eBook: Shadows of the Indignant)
