M-21 was a star cluster visible from Earth in the constellation of Sagittarius, located within Federation space near a disputed border to the Federation-Klingon Neutral Zone.

History and specifics[]

M-21 contained the Sarsithia system, and also included (or was near) Beta Quaternas and worlds of the Mirmonot.

In 2274, the Federation starship USS Enterprise entered the cluster to provide postwar humanitarian aid to Sarsithia. A warmongering Sarsith general shot at a Klingon battlecruiser to entice it into Federation space and incite a new war. (TOS comic: "Quarantine")

The real-world cluster is 1,205 parsecs from Earth, visible near the Trifid Nebula. It was also catalogued as NGC 6531.
