The MacKenzie class was a 23rd century class IX frigate starship in service to the Mutual Defense Force of the Affiliation of Outer Free Worlds, an independent state in the Triangle sector.
Service history and disposition[]
Though generally similar to the Federation Starfleet's Baker-class destroyer, this class was an original design by the engineers at the New New Aberdeen shipyards. They set out to prove they could fabricate an original vessel, as opposed to other classes in the fleet which were licensed versions of existing Starfleet starships. The configuration was recognizable for its boxy engineering section.
The frigate was powered by two type FWD-2 warp engines and FIE-2 impulse engines. Durability was achieved through the latest type FSL deflector shields and a reinforced hull. Its four type FH-12 twin phaser banks and two type FP-1 photon torpedo launch bays provided forward and aft fields of fire. It was outfitted with three 6-person transporters, two 22-person emergency transporters, one cargo transporter, and two shuttlecraft. This class ship could ferry up to 9,000 metric tons of cargo, or 180 standard cargo units.
In the late 2270s decade, on reference stardate 2/2001, the MacKenzie class entered service. They along with the flagship heavy cruiser USS Aberdeen constituted the fleet's largest vessels. (Stardate Magazine vol. 2, Issue 10: "MacKenzie-class IX frigate")
