Lieutenant (j.g.) Magnus was a Human Starfleet officer assigned to the USS Enterprise-B as navigator. Magnus was known as an officious individual that made it known that he was on the fast track to one day gain his own command.

Magnus was assigned to the Enterprise as a replacement for Ensign Tommy Singer, who had been killed during the ships maiden voyage, in which Captain James T. Kirk was also killed. Ensign Demora Sulu initially found it hard to work with Magnus, as she and Singer were having a relationship at the time of his death. (TOS novel: The Captain's Daughter)
