The maintenance bay was a section of a starship, starbase, space station or ground facility where repairs (or maintenance) could be made on various equipment and vehicles.

When Captain Atish Khatami was confronted by Lieutenant Ming Xiong in the corridor of the USS Endeavour (NCC-1895) about a Starfleet Intelligence mission, she immediately dragged him into a maintenance bay to talk in private. Two enlisted mechanics were currently welding in the room and quickly vacated it when Atish ordered them out. (VAN - Declassified novella: The Stars Look Down)

In the mirror universe, Montgomery Scott, Doctor Leonard McCoy and Nyota Uhura met in a dimly lit maintenance bay in order to avoid eavesdropping. Mr. Scott had personally rid the bay of listening devices and set up surveillance countermeasures in the bulkhead. However it did not stop the Tantalus field from watching the conversation and when Uhura announced her intentions to assassinate Captain Spock, she was killed by the device. (TOS - Glass Empires novel: The Sorrows of Empire)
