Gul Malyn Ocett was a female Cardassian in command of Galor-class warship CDS Bralek in the year 2369.

Biography[]

A rarity in the military of the Cardassian Union, the female Ocett chose to join the military after learning that she was unable to conceive children. With family being the highest ideal of the Cardassian people, Ocett knew that it was unlikely that she would ever find a permanent mate, and saw a military career as a way to travel and do things few Cardassian women ever did.

She had experience with archaeology, exobiology, and navigation. Ocett was considered to be treacherous. (CCG set: ST, card: "Ocett")

In 2345, while serving as a Dalin in command of the scoutship Kevalu, Ocett discovered the gelatinous lifeform that eventually became known as Odo while patrolling the Denorios Belt in the Bajoran sector. (ST - Terok Nor novel: Night of the Wolves)

By 2368, Ocett had been promoted to the rank of Gul. The same year, she was in command of a Galor-class warship on patrol near the Badlands when the Enterprise-D shuttlecraft Hawking emerged from the plasma storms carrying Commander William Riker and Lieutenant Commander Data. Ocett immediately intercepted the Hawking and challenged the officers' right to be in that sector of space. (TNG novel: The Badlands, Part II)

The following year, Ocett sought out what she believed to be a source of unlimited power whose location was hidden in the DNA of various Alpha Quadrant species. (TNG episode: "The Chase")

First splinter timeline[]

During the Dominion War, Ocett became a member of the Cardassian Liberation Front, a resistance movement that Legate Corat Damar had formed to overthrow the invasive presence of the Dominion on their homeworld. One of the various officers that Damar and his allies recruited, Gul Ocett was made the leader assigned to one of the autonomous rebel cells that their faction was divided into after the attack on Rondac III. Created with the encouragement of Colonel Kira Nerys, a Bajoran officer that Starfleet had dispatched to advise Damar with his guerilla campaign, cells like the one beneath Ocett launched hit-and-run assaults on Dominion facilities to sabotage the war effort. She was the only resistance leader who survived when the cells were betrayed by Gul Revok, which led to the total annihilation of their eighteen bases. Despite the fragmentation of the military rebellion and apparent demise of Damar, Ocett - who was, by her own right, a talented and brave leader - was still able to rally her troops behind her in continued resistance, which soon experienced a resurgence after Damar revealed his survival to the public, instigating a planetwide rebellion that coincided with the final battle of the war. Following the Dominion's destruction of Lakarian City, the influence of Ocett was largely responsible for Cardassian forces turning on the Dominion to join forces with the Federation Alliance, which was crucial to their conclusive victory. For these actions, she was credited as "infamous", though the consequences of the rebellion left Ocett as one of the few survivors from the original movement.

After the war, Ocett aligned herself with the Directorate, a political group hoping to restore Cardassia to its former glory. However, in the first and only meeting of the Directorate that he attended, Elim Garak knew that Ocett was neither foolish nor opportunistic, but believed the Gul was aware that the Cardassian state that she had served was gone but knew no other alternative. Despite this, Ocett - at least in the eyes of Pythas Lok, another member of the Directorate - was affected when a meeting was called between her faction and Alon Ghemor, where she and the other members supported the subsequent decision to put the decision of who would lead Cardassia to an election, outvoting the opposition that this proposal received from two members. (DS9 novel: A Stitch in Time)
