Mandylion was an F class white dwarf star with a system of associated planets located within the Mandylion Rift, distant from the territories of the Federation, Klingon Empire and Tholian Assembly in the galaxy's Alpha or Beta Quadrant.
History and specifics[]
At least five planets were known to be in orbit of the star, including fifth planet Mandylion V, and one asteroid.
50 thousand years ago, Mandylion went nova, stripping the atmospheres from its planets and irradiating them. Blast debris and radiation coalesced into the Mandylion Rift.
In 2264, a warp 15-capable vessel apparently from the Large Magellanic Cloud was observed going into the Rift. Ships from several interstellar civilizations intent on learning the ship's secrets entered the system to investigate, including the starship USS Enterprise. (TOS novel: Captain's Peril)
