Enterprise-D maneuvering thruster

The Enterprise-D using maneuvering thrusters

A maneuvering thruster (often referred to as thrusters) was a type of propulsion technology used by starships and other spacecraft to perform low speed tight maneuvers in lieu of primary impulse or warp engine use.

History and specifications[]

In 2363, the USS Enterprise-D used maneuvering thrusters to escape her moorings from the Utopia Planitia Fleet Yards, Mars for the first time. (TNG - The Sky's the Limit short story: "Meet with Triumph and Disaster")

When, in 2370, the Enterprise-D was attacked by an unknown assailant it’s sub-light and warp engines were damaged leaving only the maneuvering thrusters in operation for the starship to move and attack the aggressor. (TNG - The Space Between comic: "Strategy")
