A maneuvering thruster (often referred to as thrusters) was a type of propulsion technology used by starships and other spacecraft to perform low speed tight maneuvers in lieu of primary impulse or warp engine use.
History and specifications
In 2363, the USS Enterprise-D used maneuvering thrusters to escape her moorings from the Utopia Planitia Fleet Yards, Mars for the first time. (TNG short story: "Meet with Triumph and Disaster")
When, in 2370, the Enterprise-D was attacked by an unknown assailant it’s sub-light and warp engines were damaged leaving only the maneuvering thrusters in operation for the starship to move and attack the aggressor. (TNG comic: "Strategy")
