Mantilles is a Class M Federation planet located in the Pallas 14 system. The Federation starship USS Mantilles was named for this world.
Background[]
By the mid-23rd century, Mantilles was the most remotely inhabited colony in the Federation, and was located at the edge of the Milky Way Galaxy. In the late 2260s, Mantilles had a population of 82 million people and was governed by former Starfleet officer, Robert Wesley. (TAS episode & Log One novelization: One of Our Planets Is Missing)

History[]
In 2269, Mantilles was threatened with destruction by a cosmic cloud creature who wished to digest the planet. Governor Wesley's Starfleet training allowed him to maintain control of the population when they discovered their fates, and arranged for 5,000 children to be evacuated from the planet. Fortunately, the planet was saved by the crew of the USS Enterprise. (TAS episode & Log One novelization: One of Our Planets Is Missing)
Wesley was assigned to Mantilles due to concerns the Tholian Assembly had spies there. (TOS novel: Allegiance in Exile)
By 2282, Joanna McCoy had become head of the Organ Donation, Synthesis, and Transplant Department at Ravent General Hospital in the city of Ravent on Mantilles.
In 2288, the USS Enterprise's mission to the Aquarius Formation brought the ship within live communications range of remote Mantilles. As a result, Joanna had been able to speak with her father Leonard McCoy several times. (TOS - Crucible novel: Provenance of Shadows)
In the 24th century, Sam Bowers learned karate as a teenager while on Mantilles, and followed through with it at Starfleet Academy, earning a brown belt. (ST novel: A Singular Destiny)
