Marachat was a male Chionian diplomat from the mainstream culture of his species that worked for the government of the planet Xhio as the junior aide to Ambassador Linchar A'Chevar. The young scion to a titled house that traced their extraction back to when the Family of Xhio was first established, though Marachat was acknowledged as a rising star amidst his generation, he was also a clandestine member of the Free Euxhana movement, a resistance organisation that sought to defend their namesake subculture from the suppression it faced from the orthodox administration. Having witnessed the brutal treatment that Euxhana Chionians received for their refusal to acclimate, Marachat became a secret but radical convert of the movement that was dedicated to its mission, regardless of the cost. To this end, Marachat became responsible for orchestrating a series of events to interrupt the trade discussions between his people and the United Federation of Planets, which he attended as one of the two staffers attached to A'Chevar, who was unaware of his subversive ties. From his position inside the Chionian delegation, the attaché vandalised the conference room on Starbase 1 and planted a bomb onboard the USS Enterprise, which the Free Euxhana warned the crew about in a pre-arranged broadcast that was intended to increase awareness about their plight. Though the initial suspicions for these actions would fall on the second assistant Texho because of his familial ties to Euxhana dissidents, Marachat was later exposed by Commander Una Chin-Riley and taken to face trial as a prisoner of the Federation, though he refused to express remorse or renounce the cause, declaring that the Euxhana faced worse persecution on a regular basis.
