Marg Layton was a 23rd century Human woman, a member of Starfleet in the 2270s decade, serving as records officer aboard the Federation starship USS Enterprise under the command of Captain James T. Kirk.

Biography[]

By 2273, Commander Layton was in her mid-50s, appearing tall and angular. Layton was a loyal and dedicated officer possessing a strength of character that Kirk respected. Kirk considered her a longtime friend.

In 2273, she and Tenaida examined computer log extracts of Patrick Brady and Tenaida ordering suspicious course changes, finding overlapping identity patterns. Layton thought the recordings were evidence of duplicate officers, but Tenaida believed it was manipulation by an outside force. Layton didn't like either hypothesis, and began pulling double shifts to monitor suspects. When Ensign Yendes was killed, Layton was able to debunk the mind control theory, and eventually a shape-shifter was implicated. (TOS novel: Enemy Unseen)
