Markan was a 23rd century Fornian man. He was a scientist.

History[]

In the 2260s, Markan was a professor residing at a Fornian space observatory. The facility had viewscreens able to show objects in orbit above Fornia.

In 2266, Markan had heard about the Klingon occupation of Fornia's capital city and that Klingon soldiers were searching for escaped Federation representatives James T. Kirk and Spock. When the officers appeared at his doorstep, he showed them images of Tharrk's battle cruiser in orbit.

At Spock's request, Markan agreed to spread rumors that the Starfleet men had stolen a weather satellite. The next day, Markan brought Commander Tharrk and two security guards to the observatory to confront Kirk and Spock. Tharrk believed that the satellite contained explosives and ordered his ship to shoot it down. The vessel fired, but the beam reflected off of the mirrorred surface of the probe and disabled the battle cruiser. Kirk and Spock then knocked out the Klingons and suggested that Markan hand them over to the local authorities. (TOS comic: "Smoke and Mirrors")
