Maurice Picard was a Human man who lived in the 23rd and 24th centuries. He was the husband of Yvette Gessard Picard and the father of Robert Picard, Jean-Luc Picard and Claude Picard.
Biography
As a young man Maurice had applied to Starfleet Academy but his application was not accepted. Returning to France Maurice told no one that he had attempted to join Starfleet, not even his wife or sons. His son Jean-Luc would not learn of Maurice's attempt to join Starfleet until many years later, and realize that he had lived his father's dream. (TNG novel: The Autobiography of Jean-Luc Picard).
Maurice ran the Chateau Picard vineyards in La Barre, France, on Earth, and preferred the traditional methods and lifestyle of centuries past. (TNG episodes: "Family", "Conundrum", "Tapestry")
Maurice died sometime during Jean-Luc's service aboard the USS Stargazer, between the early 2330s and 2355. For years afterwards, Jean-Luc harbored concerns that his father had never forgiven him for leaving home and joining Starfleet. (TNG novel: Losing the Peace)
