Biography

Early life

At some point during his Starfleet Academy training in the 2360s decade, he met B'Elanna Torres and eventually had a romantic relationship with her. His pet name for B'Elanna Torres was BLT. Even though this relationship ended not too long later, they remained friends. The last time he spoke to Torres, he mentioned his desire to leave Starfleet, however he remained an active officer and eventually became chief of security of the USS Equinox. Delta Quadrant

In the year 2371, while exploring an uncharted star system, the Equinox was pulled into the Delta Quadrant by an entity known as the Caretaker. The Equinox' second-in-command was killed during this event, which prompted Captain Rudolph Ransom to promote Burke to first officer.

In 2375, the Equinox discovered another Starfleet vessel in the Delta Quadrant, the USS Voyager. Their commanding officer, Captain Kathryn Janeway found out, that the Equinox crew were abusing a nucleogenic lifeform in order to power systems. With Janeway being the higher ranking officer, according to the Starfleet regulations, she ordered Ransom to surrender his ship. Ransom agreed, but was arrested by Burke, who mutinied and took control of the Equinox.

Death of Burke

Burke is killed by one of the aliens.

Burke managed to manipulate the Voyager-EMH's program, which was really the Equinox's EMH, forcing it to transmit Voyager's shield frequency to the Equinox. Although Burke caused severe damage to the Voyager, Ransom was able to regain control of some of the ship functions, eventually stopping the attack. He ordered Burke to surrender, who was not ready to give up, though. Burke tried to escape to a shuttlecraft, but was killed by one of the nucleogenic lifeforms on the way to the shuttlebay. (VOY episode & novelization: Equinox)
